Edwin “Eddie” Schaefer was called home to the Lord on November 28, 2023, at 68. Loving husband of 42 years to Tina. Beloved father of Rebecca (Curtis) Whittaker, Liz (Nick) Hoskins, and MaryBeth (Farhan) Rashid. Dear brother of Diana (Paul) Schmidt, Robert (Laurie) Schaefer, Thomas (Debbie Pluer) Schaefer, Raymond (Mary Jo) Schaefer, Maryann (Dan Sorce) Schaefer, and Joann (Todd) King. Dear brother-in-law of Connie (Lawrence) Barrett, Donna (Dale) Morley, Tammy Pulczinski, Julie (John) Sutton, and Judy (Scott) Baker. Dear nephew of William (Marcia) Beres, and Agnes Salentine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Veronica Schaefer, grandparents Nicholas and Margaret Beres, George and Frances Schaefer, brother-in-law Terry Robran, and many beloved aunts and uncles, Leo (Loretta), Msgr. Francis, Harold (Lucille), Nickolas (Rita), John (Patricia), George (Patricia), and Anna Beres, Lloyd Salentine, and Margaret (Joseph) Schaefer. Grandfather to Gwenyth and Katherine Whittaker, Zayn and Omar Rashid. Further survived by many nieces, nephews, loved relatives, and friends.
Eddie was a lifelong citizen of Muskego, growing up on the Schaefer family farm. Eddie attended St. Leonard's grade school and graduated from Muskego High School in 1972. Eddie showed great dedication to his beloved community. Eddie joined the volunteer fire department at age 18. He held several positions, including Fire Chief, and served 45 years of fire service in Muskego. He loved operating the excavator and working for the Muskego Department of Public Works for 34 years until he retired. This great man enjoyed being a servant leader. He dedicated his free time to volunteering in various organizations, including St. Leonard's Parish, fundraisers, Catholic Financial Life, and helping anyone in need. Eddie had a passion for farming that he pursued throughout his life into retirement. He was a farmer to his core. Throughout all these experiences, Eddie was able to touch so many lives. He put the needs of others first and helped people develop to be their best selves. Eddie was a dedicated husband; Eddie and Tina always loved spending time together, visiting local festivals, kayaking, and beach vacations. Eddie adored spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He will always be loved and is already greatly missed.
Visitation Friday, December 15, 2023, at ST. LEONARD’S CATHOLIC CHURCH (W173S7743 Westwood Drive, Muskego) from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a mass to follow at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church Cemetery (16000 W National Avenue, New Berlin) a prayer service and burial will take place at 10:00 a.m.
