Duszynski, Edwin J Edwin J. Duszynski, age 99, of Madison passed away peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 29th, 2012. Edwin was born on June 1, 1913, in Milwaukee, WI to Josephine (nee Rosciszewski) and Martin Duszynski. Ed was the youngest of 4 children. He graduated in 1937 from UW-Madison with a BS in Civil Engineering. Three years later, he married the love of his life, Jean (nee Czaplicki) and settled in Milwaukee. He began his professional career with the City of Milwaukee, served as city engineer in Cudahy for 7years, and Director of Public Works in Appleton for 8 years, before being appointed Director of Public works for Madison in 1962. Edwin was a pioneer in municipal waste reduction. He was first to collect newspapers, first to shred waste to reduce its volume, and first to make refuse derived fuel from city trash in the nation. He received an award from the American Public Works Association as the Top 10 Public Works Men of the Year in 1975; in 1977 he received a Distinguished Service Citation from the UW's College of Engineering. He retired in 1978 after 41 years of public service. At that time, he was recognized by Mayor Paul Soglin for his fiscal prudence, interdepartment leadership roles, and dedicated service to the City of Madison. Edwin is survived by his three children, Dolores Lepkowski , Patricia Grube , and Adrian Duszynski (Pam). He has seven grandchildren; Greg Lepkowski (Karen), Russ Lepkowski (Diane), Cheryl Cuomo Schafer (Mike), Suzette Grube Thur (Timothy), Jonathon Duszynski (Kathryn), Andrea Jakubczak (Andrew), and Braden Duszynski. In addition, he has 10 great-grandchildren; Bradley Lepkowski (Christy), Kyle Lepkowski, Zachary Cuomo, Allesandra Cuomo, Ryan Lepkowski, Tyler Thur, Gabe Jakubczak, Noah Jakubczak, Alexandria Duszynski, and Collin Duszynski. Preceded in death by his wife Jean, brother Albert, brother Anthony, and sons-in-law Raymond Lepkowski and Donald Grube. A private family service was held on Saturday, December 8th. Burial was in St. Aldalbert Cemetery in Milwaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olbrich Botanical Gardens, Madison. On-line condolences may be made at maxsass.com.
