Kenneth Thomas Ponec, a beloved family man and respected community member, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, with his children surrounding him with music, prayers, and love on his final journey. Born on August 5, 1944, in Cudahy, Wisconsin, he lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication.


Ken was the cherished husband of the late Helen, with whom he shared 48 beautiful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Mike (Jeanne) Ponec, Kris (Mark) Halwas, Kerry (Corey) Gaura, and Kevin Ponec. His love for his family extended to his grandchildren, Matthew (Sera) Kranz, Spencer (Caitlin) Kranz, Lissa Kranz, Halle Gaura, Harrison Gaura, Morgan Halwas, Mckenzie Halwas and great-grandchildren, Laila, Robbie, Maya, and Tripp Kenny. He was a dear brother to Deacon Gerald (Lynn) Ponec and was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Jerry, and brother, Richard (Shirley) Ponec.


Ken proudly served in the United States Marine Corp, a testament to his dedication to his country. His commitment to service did not stop there. He was an active volunteer with St. Vincent De Paul, where he touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity. His tireless efforts and selfless spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.


The family extends their gratitude to the staff at the Muskego Regency and the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center for the loving care they provided Ken in his later years.


A man of faith, Ken was a long-standing member of the St. Mary Catholic Faith Community. Family and friends are invited to gather at St. Mary Catholic Faith Community (9520 W, Forest Home Ave, Hales Corners, WI) on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 1-2:45 PM to honor and celebrate Ken's life. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 3 pm, with Military Honors to follow, a fitting tribute to a man who served his country and community with honor and pride.


In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to St. Vincent De Paul Society or Wounded Warrior Project.


Ken's life was a testament to the power of love, service, and dedication. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives of those he loved.
