Kurzynski, Lucille "Lucy" Passed away on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at the age of 97. She was born on August 4, 1914 in Milwaukee to Joseph (born in Rownopole, Poland) and Josephine (Nee Szpera) Kurzynski. She was baptized and educated at S.S. Cyril and Methodius Church, where she remained a lifelong member. In her youth she was very active socially and athletically and liked to travel, especially to Chicago by train. One of her favorite stops there was the Marshall Field's department store on State Street, and in her later years she liked to recount the lunches she had in their famed Walnut Room. For 91 years Lucy lived in the home where she was born in the 11th and Hayes Ave. neighborhood. Her mother died when Lucy was a teenager, she chose to remain single throughout her life in order to assist her ill father and help him care for two of his grandchildren that he had adopted, Eugene and George Dominiak. George was killed in action in France in November of 1945 and Eugene, who also served in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII, preceded her in death. Lucy also worked for Shuster's (later Gimbel's) Department Store for 40 years. She retired in 1979 and shortly thereafter developed macular degeneration, eventually losing most of her eyesight. Nevertheless, she was able to continue to live in her birth home, primarily because of the dedicated long-term help of her late nephew Richard Kurzynski and his wife Dorothy. In late 2005 Lucy moved to the Terrace at St. Francis Nursing Home. Lucy is survived by nephews; Terry and Marvin Kurzynski, niece Gertrude (Nee Dominiak) Nalepinski, as well as several great nephews and great nieces. She was preceded in death by her siblings Walter, Casmir, John, Frank, Alphonse, Rose and Martha and by her nephews Arnold and Donald Dominiak and Dennis and Myron Kurzynski. Visitation at the Funeral Home on Thurs. Sept. 8, 2011 from 11AM-12Noon. Funeral Service 12Noon. Private interment St. Adalbert Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest by her parents.
