Annette Helena Engel, age 83, a longtime resident of Franklin, WI, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving daughters, grandchildren, sons-in-laws, sister, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Born on June 29, 1943, in Milwaukee, Annette was a woman whose life was defined by her unwavering devotion to family and the love she so generously shared with everyone around her. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1962 and went on to build a life centered around caring for others. Her devotion to her family was paramount, and everything she did was rooted in making sure those she loved were happy, healthy, and cared for.
Annette is now reunited with her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Chuck, whom she missed dearly.
She is survived by her children: Charann (Lowell), Charles (Rebecca), Cindy (Scott), and Christy. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Natalie (Alex), Nicole, Nolan, Naomi, Gabriella, Cecilia, Charlie, Kye, and Aven. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she took immense pride in their achievements, adventures, and lives.
Annette was a devoted mom and Nana, but she was so much more than a mother, grandmother, or aunt. She was a true caregiver at heart, and caring for others was simply part of who she was. She was incredibly generous, selfless, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her smile and laughter could light up a room, and she had a special gift for making people feel comfortable enough to open up to her. She was truly a people magnet, drawing others in with her warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in their lives.
Her grandchildren were her world, and she made it her mission to ensure they always knew how deeply they were loved. Whether through a comforting hug or one of her famous red lipstick kisses, Annette had a way of leaving her mark on everyone she loved. She made sure those in her care were always "kissed up" before they left, a little reminder of her love that will forever be remembered.
Annette had open arms and an open heart for everyone. She never judged, never turned anyone away, and made everyone feel accepted, welcomed, and cared for. She was perhaps one of the most comforting people you could ever know. Her home and her table were always open, and she made certain that no one ever left hungry. Feeding the people she loved was just another way she showed how much she cared.
As we bid farewell to Annette, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, filled with unconditional love, endless generosity, laughter, and countless memories. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the people she touched, and the many lives made better simply because she was part of them. Though she will be deeply missed, her warmth, kindness, infectious laughter, and those unforgettable red lipstick kisses will remain in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Annette's love for children, the family kindly asks that donations be considered for Emma James Sommers, a 6-year-old girl and daughter of a family friend who is courageously battling Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive brain tumor. Sadly, Emma's tumor is inoperable, and she has been given less than one year to live. Any support would be greatly appreciated as Emma and her family navigate this heartbreaking journey. In this small way, we hope to honor Annette's loving and generous spirit by helping a child and family who need it most. https://www.supportnow.org/emma-james-sommers-2026
