Bernard Leon Mielcarek, known affectionately to friends and family as Bernie, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, at the age of 79, in Oak Creek. Born on April 25, 1946, in Milwaukee.

Bernie is survived by his beloved wife, Betty, with whom he shared nearly 55 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was the proud father of Michael (Meghan), Mark (Natalie), and Matthew (Kristine), and doted on his grandchildren, Sam, Belle, and Tyler, who brought immeasurable happiness to his life. Bernie also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Mary (Howard) Cooley, brother-in-law Tom (Carole) Prawdzik, and was preceded in death by his brother, the late Carl, and his parents, Lucille and Emil. His loss will also be deeply felt by his extended family, including his nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends who were all touched by his generous spirit.

Bernie's educational journey began at Boys Tech High School, where he graduated in 1964. His passion for design and structure led him to further his studies in architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Bernie's professional life was distinguished by a successful career as an architect, where he spent over three decades working for the City of Milwaukee. His dedication to his profession was evident in the skylines he helped shape and the communities he helped build.

The cottage up north was a refuge for Bernie, a place where he enjoyed the serenity of nature. Traveling was another of Bernie's joys, as it allowed him to explore new places and create lasting memories with his family. Bernie found solace in golfing, music, and biking, as well as volunteering at Wehr Nature Center, activities that reflected his love for the environment.

Bernie will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, a cherished “Papa”, and a true friend. His thoughtful ways, friendly smile, and the loving memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Bernie's legacy is one of love, kindness, and the gentle imprint he left on the world. As we bid farewell to Bernard Leon Mielcarek, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His spirit will forever be a beacon of light for his family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
