Carol A. Engel

Carol A. Engel, a longtime Greendale resident, passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on December 14, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Carol lived a life marked by her independence, warmth, faith, and generous spirit.

As a graduate of Notre Dame High School, class of 1951, Carol carried the lessons of her youth throughout her life. After raising her children, she began her career as the head baker at Greendale High School. Carol always dressed well and took pride in her appearance. Her warm hospitality left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Her passion for life extended to her interests and hobbies. Carol loved to travel, decorate for the holidays, especially Christmas and entertain family and friends. Her pride, however, lay most importantly in her family—her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest accomplishments, embodying her love and dedication.

Carol is survived by a loving family who will deeply miss her: her daughters Jane (Chuck) Hubmann, Julie (Jake) Brusewitz, and JoEllen (Ken) Pitrof; and Rick (Sharon) Engel; and her treasured grandchildren—Charlie, Kristin, April, Hannah, Sydney, Olivia, Tony, and Sam. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Noah, Cayden, Cameron, Caroline, and Andromeda. Also survived by her brother Leroy Knapinski, many dear friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Manske, and her second husband, Don Engel. Carol also mourned the loss of her sons, Jeff Manske and Robert Engel.

In celebrating the life of Carol, we remember a woman who approached each day with confidence and joy, loved fiercely, and made the world better through her warmth and generosity. She will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege to know her.

Visitation Monday February 23, 2026 from 11 am until 1 pm at the Max A. Sass & Sons Greenridge Chapel. Family and friends will meet for a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 pm at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church (524 W. Historic Mitchell Street, Milwaukee). Private entombment St. Adalbert Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of choice appreciated.
