David m. Counard, born on June 9, 1949, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A devoted father, grandfather, and brother, he left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him.
David had a distinguished career, proudly serving during the Vietnam era in the United States Army and later retiring from the United States Air Force. His dedication to service extended beyond the military; he shared his knowledge and skills as a professor at Milwaukee Area Technical College, where he taught Hydraulics and Pneumatics. David inspired countless students through his passion for education and commitment to excellence.
Outside of his professional life, David was an adventurous spirit. He loved camping, exploring the world as a traveler, and scuba diving. His appreciation for culture drew him to theater events, where he enjoyed immersing himself in the performing arts.
David is lovingly survived by his daughters Chantel (Jesus) Ortiz and Shannon Kortbein. He was a beloved grandfather to Christian, Sarina (John), Lauren, Diego, and Francisco, who will carry on his legacy of love and adventure. David was also a dear brother to the late Rose, Dennis, Scott, Colin, and Tina (Jim). He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends who will cherish his memory.
A memorial gathering will take place on November 24, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM at Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral and Cremation Greenridge Chapel, located at 4747 S. 60th Street, Greenfield, WI 53220.
David M. Counard will be remembered not only for his contributions to his country and his students but also for his warmth, adventurous spirit, and the love he shared with his family. His memory will continue to inspire those he touched throughout his life.
