Donald "Don" Joseph Grinker, Sr., of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at Villa St. Francis at the age of 86, surrounded by family.
Born on July 23, 1938, in the Town of Little Black, Don lived a life defined by deep love for family, quiet strength, and sharp wit. A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, he went on to build a life rooted in hard work and ingenuity.
He was the longtime owner of Engine Blade & Prop, where his passion for outboard motors shined—all while sustaining a full career as a mechanic with the United States Postal Service. Whether it had an engine, a motor, or moving parts, Don could fix it—often in his own inventive way. A lifelong tinkerer and eternal student, he even taught himself to play the concertina by ear.
Don cherished the simple joys: sitting in the sun, watching car racing, fishing, playing cribbage and sheepshead, and spending time with those he loved. He was known for his clever humor and the gentle kindness he carried into every interaction. He made the best breakfast sausage and vegetable soup—but was always humble about it.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Grinker; his five children: Sharon (Bob) Bea, Judi (Jeff) Dadtka, Donna Grinker, Tammy (Ken) Bleecker, and Don (Melissa) Grinker Jr.; twelve grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren—with two more on the way. He shared a special bond with each of them, including his fur grandbaby, Daisy.
Don is also survived by his brother, Joe (Sandy) Grinker, and sister, Pat Hamm (Butch, deceased). He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Clara Grinker, and siblings Bob, John, Betty, George, Bill, Tom, and Dick.
Visitation will be held the MAX A. SASS & SONS GREENRIDGE CHAPEL (4747 S. 60th St., Greenfield) on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 1:30 PM until the 4:00 PM funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Don’s memory to support Parkinson’s disease research.
