Douglas L. Kingan Sr., Doug to those who knew him, was born on August 5th,1942, in Paton, Iowa. He passed away on August 18th, 2025, at the age of 83 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Doug left an impact on everyone he met, be it the camaraderie in the service or by making every moment special for his family through his actions more than his words.

During his youth he spent a lot of time tinkering around with cars and fixing them up for anyone who asked and all he charged was a case of beer. If it had metal parts, he was a part of it. This led him to become a master welder for 50 years, working for a few manufacturers here in the state of Wisconsin. Aside from focusing on his tasks in the factory, he often made metal artwork to display in his yard or functional pieces to be used in recreation. From the decorative birds in his lawn to arguably some of the first metal firewood grabbers, he was truly an artisan at heart. He was also an expert and lover of all things cars; his ability in driving, fixing, and naming them were unmatched. His solutions were much like himself—unconventional and reliable.

Doug had many passions outside of working and serving his country. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and all things sports. He was always rooting for the Brewers, Packers, or Bucks with his family and friends. At one point during his youth he was even scouted by the Braves, but he turned down the offer to join the military. He made an impressive journey around the globe during his service in the United States Army. Doug also had an affinity for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping at Badger Campsite which was his second home for forty plus years. The campsite was his pride and joy that he welcomed his family into, where he told legendary stories around the fire with a drink in hand.

Most of all, Doug was a family man. Doug was married to his beloved wife, Donna, who preceded him in death in 2007. To express the depth of their devotion they renewed their vows for their 35th anniversary. He cherished his role as a father to Douglas Jr. (Lori), Shannon (Gabriel), Dion, Bobby, and fostered many children. Together they opened their home to those who needed it most, the family they created extended well beyond blood. Doug also cared deeply about his grandkids: Sean, Lucas, and Krystal. He always ensured they were spoiled and given every opportunity to succeed.

Doug was preceded in death by his siblings Virginia, Curt, Georgia-June, as well as, his parents Lillian and George Kingan in eternal life. Survived by his siblings Clayton, Clem, Richard (Glennie), Juanita, Joanne, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He will be remembered and missed dearly by his family and all the people he touched with his generosity. We can all aspire to be even a fraction of the man that he was.
