Douglas L. Smedbron, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Born on October 14, 1950, to Robert and Shirley (Williams) Smedbron. Douglas grew up in Arkdale, Wisconsin, where he spent his early years before leaving home to attend college. He studied drama at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where this deepened his love of the performing arts. That passion remained with him throughout his life, and he became a familiar and respected presence in several local theater productions. Among the theaters where he performed were the Waukesha Civic and Sunset Playhouse, where he brought memorable energy and sincerity to the stage. Some of his most notable performances included roles in “12 Angry Men,” “Enemy of the People,” and “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” His work in theater reflected not only his talent, but also his dedication, discipline, and appreciation for storytelling.

Beyond the stage, Douglas found joy in the natural world. He was a devoted nature lover who spent much of his time outdoors. He especially enjoyed photography, capturing the beauty of the world around him with a careful eye and an appreciation for detail. One of his most visited places was Necedah Wildlife Refuge, a setting that suited his love of quiet reflection and the outdoors. He also enjoyed listening to classic country music, a pastime that brought him comfort and connection to the rhythms and stories he valued.

Douglas was a man of many gifts, but those who knew him best will remember most the qualities that defined his character. He was kind, funny, and hardworking, and he carried those traits into his family life, friendships, and every endeavor he pursued. His creativity was evident not only in his theatrical work, but also in the way he lived his life with imagination, care, and a deep appreciation for the people and experiences around him.

He is survived by his devoted son, Sean Smedbron,  siblings, Roberta, Jeffrey, and Stephen, his cousin Sandy Morgan as well as niece Liz Glasser and nephew Nate Glasser. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Marlene, whose companionship was central to his life, his parents, Robert and Shirley (Williams) Smedbron, and by his Aunt Alice. Douglas cherished his family deeply, and his devotion to them was one of the most enduring parts of his life.
