Hammer, Eugene S. "Gene" Age 84, found peace on Saturday, March 2, 2013. He was surrounded by family. Loving husband of 63 years to Eileen (Nee Westley). Dear Dad of Gary (Cindy), Gregory and Susan (Bodo) Viliunas. "Gramps" to Kristy (Dan) Martinez, Kerri (Steve) Glynn, Brian and Brandon Viliunas. Also a proud great-grandfather of Kyle, Anna, Max & Lucy. Special uncle to Jeff (Debbie) Hammer. Further survived by his sister-in-law Louise (the late Dr. William) Westley, other relatives and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Caroline Hammer, his brothers Clarence "Bud" (Elsie), Hank (Harriet), his sister Dorothy (Richard) and a granddaughter Sarah. A member of the "Greatest Generation"; Gene served in both the Marines Corps and the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. A very special thank-you to the Milwaukee Honor's flight for giving Gene "one of the best days" of his life. He was a retiree of General Electric with over 37 years of service. Gene was a member of the American Legion, an avid photographer, fisherman, golfer and gardener. The family sends a special "thank you" to the staff on the 12th floor of St. Luke's as well as the staff of VNA Zilber Family Hospice. A memorial gathering will be in ST. LUKES LUTHERAN CHURCH (6705 Northway, Greendale, WI) on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 9 to 10:30 AM. A memorial service will be held at 10:30. Interment with full military honors will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery. "Thank you Jesus, for giving us Gene. He will be sadly missed."
