Gerolamo “Jerome” Sardina, known as Jim, was born on May 19, 1930 to Thomas and Antonia Sardina in Milwaukee, WI. He married Mary Bachmeier on May 26, 1951, and has resided in Greendale, WI for over the past 62 years. Jim professed Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior and passed into His presence and eternal Home on February 4, 2026 with his five children at his bedside.
Jim is survived by his five children: Donna (Dennis) Andrist, Dorene (the late Alain) Salvati, Denise (the late Paul) Knebel, Diane (Dennis) Hasting, and Jerome J. (Melanie Johnson) Sardina. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary.
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord…Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!” Psalm 127: 3 & 5. Jim’s quiver was full as well as his heart with his five children, 13 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
After High School Jim served his country for three years in the Marine Corps. After this he married and was a dedicated husband and father. Jim was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved being surrounded by family, friends, and eating a good pizza.
Jim will be remembered for his faith. He loved sharing the good news of the gospel throughout his life. The last time he was able to share the gospel message was with a fellow resident at his assisted living facility a month before he passed. Now his faith has become sight.
Jim was a devoted, hard-working, family man. He retired at age 75. He sacrificially gave his time to those in need. You could always find him helping his children with their projects or volunteering at church. He found it impossible to be idle. He taught his children work ethics by example. He didn’t expect recognition for his accomplishments but would not have minded a banana cream pie.
He will be missed for his corny poems on every birthday card, and his voice will be missed as he sang happy birthday to each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild through the years.
A day without family or friends was a difficult day for him. He was always ready for a good chat, a game, or making a young one giggle with delight by showing them his egg trick.
Although Jim was a simple man, with simple pleasures, having Christ as his Savior and family by his side, he knew he was a rich and blessed man.
While his family mourns the loss of him, we each know, through our faith in Christ, one day we will meet again. For this reason, we celebrate his life and his testimony. We know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. (2 Cor. 5:8). There is peace in knowing “God so loved the world He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life!” (Jn 3:16)
Thank you, dad, for your steadfast love and unwavering faith. Thank you for a well lived life and for teaching us not to give up. Thank you for your faithful example and your devotion to each of us. Thank you for your labor of love demonstrated to us. Thank you for the bond you created in your family.
Dad, your strength, kindness, and wisdom will continue because you have taught us well.
Habakkuk 3:18 “I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.”
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking you donate to Greendale Baptist Church with “Camp Scholarship Fund” written in the memo line. The money collected will be used to help send kids of all ages to Bible Camp. Jim went to camp for the first time as an adult and he would want every child to be able to have this experience.
