Janet L. Nicolai, 93, of Greendale, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2026. She was born on January 22, 1933, in Marshfield to the late William and Selma (Bohman) Kumbier. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Stout with a degree in Home Economics. In 1956, Janet married Allen Nicolai, and together they built a life centered on family and the values that meant so much to her. Allen preceded her in death in 1988, but the family they created remained at the heart of Janet's life.
Janet was a woman of strong family values, took pride in her independence and was never afraid to speak her mind. An independent thinker, she had a strong sense of who she was and what she believed. She was artistic and crafty, finding joy in quilting. Janet liked to cook, bringing family together around the table and creating memories through meals prepared with care. She had a loving and sensitive nature, and beneath her strong-willed personality was a heart that cared deeply for her family.
Janet is survived by her children, David Nicolai and Nancy (Al) Gould; her daughter-in-law, Camille (Don) Wlodarski; and her grandchildren, Andrew (Christine) and Elizabeth, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen; her children, Tom and Patti; and her brothers, Leroy, Robert, and John.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 13, 2026, at MAX A. SASS GREENRIDGE CHAPEL, 4747 S. 60th Street, Greenfield, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 5:30 p.m. Burial will take place at Arlington Park Cemetery in Greenfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Janet's memory.
