Joseph Howard Oliva, lovingly known as Joey, was born on January 28, 1995, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He departed this world too soon on May 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kind memories and an indelible mark on the hearts of those who loved him.
A Respiratory Therapist in Home Health Care, Joey dedicated his life to caring for others, embodying generosity and thoughtfulness in his work and everyday life. He pursued his education passionately, graduating from Franklin High School and furthering his studies at Milwaukee Area Technical College, where he honed the skills that would allow him to make a profound impact on his patients' lives.
Joey's personality shone brightly with a great sense of humor and wit, which endeared him to friends and family alike. He had a unique ability to uplift those around him, whether through laughter shared or thoughtful gestures that demonstrated his kindness. Joey was particularly known for his tender moments spent with family, such as when he helped his sister Hannah set up a burial, even hand making a cross, for her beloved hamster, a memory that encapsulates the love and affection he held for those closest to him.
Beyond his remarkable career, Joey had a diverse array of hobbies and interests. He was deeply fascinated by history, spent countless hours immersed in video games, and explored the art of metal smithing and woodworking. His love for the Renaissance Fair highlighted his connection to creativity and the past. Joey also cherished the great outdoors, embracing nature through camping and hiking, where he found solace and adventure. Joey loved treasure hunting for unique gifts for himself but especially for others.
Joey is survived by his loving parents, Rick and Jackie; his adoring sister, Hannah; and his beloved grandmother, Alice Voegeli. He also holds a special place in the memories of those who knew him, alongside his late grandfather, Howard Voegeli, and his grandparents Joseph and Mary Oliva, who have welcomed him into their arms.
As we reflect on Joey's life, we celebrate a young man whose spirit was defined by love, humor, and a desire to make the world a better place. Though his time with us was far too brief, his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Joey will be deeply missed, yet his memories will be cherished forever, reminding us of the beautiful soul he was.
A visitation will be held at Max A. Sass & Sons-Mission Hills Chapel (8910 W. Drexel Ave., Franklin) on Wednesday, May 21st from 12-3PM followed by a memorial service at 3PM to celebrate Joey's life.
