Joyce M. Lucas Profile Photo

In loving memory of Joyce Marie Lucas (née Blakemore) Nina, who passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, in Greenfield, Wisconsin, at the age of 87. Born on December 24, 1937, in Springfield, Tennessee, her life was a testament to unwavering love, compassion, and selfless service. Joyce (Nina) spent her formative years in Springfield TN, where she attended Bradford High School from first through twelfth grade. Her roots in Tennessee remained close to her heart throughout her life. From an early age, Joyce (Nina) displayed a nurturing spirit that would define her path both personally and professionally.

Devoting her life to the care of others, Joyce (Nina) worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant In this role, she brought comfort and dignity to those in need with the same warmth and kindness that she extended to everyone around her. Her work was not just a job it was a calling that reflected her generous heart and deep empathy.

Joyce’s greatest joy was her family. She loved them unconditionally and shared that same boundless affection with all who knew her. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Terri L. (Orrin) Scott and Charlotte (Grady) Dolison, her grandchildren Landis M. Lucas Sr., Jacquese Y. Lucas, Ashely T. Scott, and Sierra A. Scott, Charmaine (Alphonso) Dawson; great-grandchildren Landis M. (Desi) Lucas Jr., Lanaja M. Lucas, Jayden N. Davis, Weston A. Stalowski and Autumn L-A Ferreira, Dallyce Dawson; and great-great-grandchildren Landis M. Lucas III and Lamonte M. Lucas. Her legacy also lives on through a host of cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends.

Her home was a sanctuary of love and generosity. She welcomed everyone with open arms offering food, clothing, or simply a listening ear always willing to share whatever she had without hesitation. Her love knew no limits and left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path. Her compassion extended beyond people to include the animals she adored. Her beloved dogs, Tobbie and Tizzie, held a special place in her heart, as did the pets of her family members whom she treated as part of her own.

She was preceded in death by her father Thomas H. Kirby; Mother Edna L. Harper; and several loving aunts, uncles, and close cousins whose memories she carried with grace. She found joy in music and treasured every moment spent with family and friends. Whether through laughter shared over meals or quiet moments of companionship, it created memories that will be cherished forever. Though she may no longer be with us in body but her memory will continue to shine brightly through the lives she touched. Her unmatched love, open-hearted generosity, and enduring kindness will remain etched in our hearts always.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

  1. A Heart That Stood Taller
  2. She had the purest heart,
  3. a well of kindness unending,
  4. the kind of soul who would give you anything you asked for—
  5. not out of duty, but out of love,
  6. because giving was the way she lived.
  7. She may have been short in height,
  8. yet behind her family she stood taller than mountains.
  9. Her strength was quiet but unshakable,
  10. a shelter, a fortress,
  11. a reminder that love is the tallest thing of all.
  12. Five generations she was,
  13. a rare blessing in this world.
  14. Not many are given such privilege,
  15. to hold history in their hands,
  16. to pass down wisdom like heirlooms,
  17. to see her smile carried in children’s children’s eyes.
  18. Though she has gone ahead of us,
  19. the thread she wove remains—
  20. binding us together,
  21. teaching us to stand as she stood,
  22. to give as she gave,
  23. to love as she loved.
  24. And in every act of kindness,
  25. in every family gathering,
  26. in every story whispered to the youngest child,
  27. her memories will rise again—
  28. forever taller than mountains,
  29. forever the purest heart.
