Judith A. Vogl (nee Ouradnik), aged 88, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026. She is survived by her sister Kathryn; sons Peter, Michael (Gina), Andrew (Carmen); daughters Sara (Jay), Ann; grandchildren Katherine, Emma, Erin, Charles, Pedro and Joshua. She is preceded in death by her husband Michael; parents Charles and Kathryn (nee Matthews); sister Mary K. and brother Charles.
Judy graduated from Pulaski High School in 1955 and Mount Mary College with a degree in Occupational Therapy in 1959. She served two years as a Lieutenant in the United States Army for her Occupational Therapy internship. Later, she worked at the YMCA giving massages and even taught massage therapy. One of her students reported that she was the best teacher. She always loved working outside the home.
Judy was married to Michael Vogl in August 1961. They spent 61 years together as tandem paddlers on tangled waters, concretion collectors on coastal cascades, bucket brigades in scratchy patches, and co-pilot pals on sideroads and sand cuts (Michael’s words). She made sure her family spent a lot of time outside canoeing, hiking, and exploring. Hiking was always a huge part of her life; she even started a hiking club in Milwaukee during her high school years.
Her love of the outdoors extended to her garden. The gardens at her Elm Grove home were thriving; she had an eye for color, beauty and flower arranging. Besides having a green thumb, she was a great reader and when she had an opportunity to travel, she would take it.
Judy was first and foremost a mother, and she performed all her motherly duties admirably. She was the constant; the force that made sure everyone had what they needed. But she was also a grandmother, the sole driver, soccer mom, Girl Scout leader, medic, seamstress, and more. She hosted parties and family gatherings and made sure you weren’t hungry; there was always a sandwich available. Her baking skills were amazing; everyone looked forward to her homemade Christmas treats.
Judy was a great bargain hunter at thrift stores and rummage sales; many received a perfect treasure from her. She clipped coupons and knew how to stretch a dollar. Running estate sales with her friend Mary gave her the opportunity to meet people. She liked to make new friends and could talk up a storm.
She will be remembered for her sense of humor, caring, and strength. She taught her children how to drive, be frugal, work hard and be responsible. She also treasured time as “oma” with her grandchildren. She is finally resting in peace. This outgoing spirit will continue in the memories of all who met her.
A visitation will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum (7301 W. Nash St., Milwaukee) on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of service 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Judy’s favorite charities – Ice Age Trail, Milwaukee Public Television or Catholic Relief Services.
