Larry Bert Hackney, 75, of South Milwaukee passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, due to Alzheimer's, at Azura Memory Care in Oak Creek. It’s a disease he has had since mid-2011.
He is survived by his wife Mary Beth (West), son Marcus (Maggie), daughter-in-law Amy Mohr who is the mother of his grandchildren Brooklyn and Cole Hackney, sister Rebecca (Ronald) Dublinski, and brother-in-law of James (Barbara) West. Further survived by Nieces and a nephew.
Larry attended Oak Creek High School for 3 years (how he met Mary Beth) and graduated from Greendale High School in 1969. He then attended UW-Stevens Point for 2 years and graduated from UW-Parkside in 1973.
Larry married Mary Beth West in 1972.
He worked for Cooper Industries in Franksville, WI for 35 years.
Golden Retrievers and Cudahy Kennel Club were a big part of Larry’s life. So were Civil War and Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) re-enacting. Family vacations almost always included visiting Civil War battlefields. Our Goldens all had names related to the Civil War—Shiloh, Sherman, Ruger, Mosby, Logan, and Alonzo.
Memorial visitation will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery Chapel, 3801 W. Morgan Ave, Milwaukee, WI on Thursday, May 28th from 12:30 PM to until time of service at 1:30 PM. A private interment will take place at Mt Olivet Cemetery, 3801 W. Morgan Avenue, Milwaukee, WI.
Much appreciation for the teamwork care he received from Azura Memory Care in Oak Creek during the past 5 ½ years and later with the help of St. Croix Hospice in Oak Creek for the past 2 ½ years.
In order to honor Larry’s memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Larry’s name.
