Lydia G. Velazquez, 87, of Oak Creek, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

She was born on February 28, 1939, in Puerto Rico to the late Pablo Torres and Juanita (Aviles) Torres. Lydia spent many years working at a leather tannery before retiring and returning to Puerto Rico. In 2021, she moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to family.

Lydia was a devoted Christian whose faith guided her throughout her life. She was devoted to her prayer circle and loved singing in the church choir. Her faith, kindness, and joyful spirit touched many who knew her.

Known for her sense of style, Lydia enjoyed being fashionable and always took pride in her appearance. Above all, she cherished her family and the time she spent with them. She was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She is lovingly survived by her siblings, Ofelia Schwarz, Tito (Marlene) Torres, and Jose Juan Torres; her children, Sonia (Todd) Jackson, Lydia (Angel) Alvarez, Clarissa (Victor) Acevedo, and Armando (Cassie) Santiago; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Juanita (Aviles) Torres; and her siblings, Margarita Rivera, Carmen Torres, and Luz N. Merced.

Visitation will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church (723 W Washington St., Milwaukee) on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM with a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Lydia’s name to St. Patrick Parish.
