Marlyn “Chas” Tibbetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the grand age of 99. Born on September 27, 1925, in Antigo, the son of Leonard and Edditha Tibbetts.
Marlyn's academic journey culminated in a master’s degree in Education, a testament to his belief in the power of knowledge. His early years were also defined by his service during World War II, where he served in the Philippines with the United States Army. Upon returning home, Marlyn's path led him to the love of his life, Elizabeth, whom he married in 1950. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their children, Rob and Jan (Tom). Marlyn's beloved grandchildren, Chris, Kyle (Tammy), Tanya, Tim, Tammy, and Terry, and his cherished great-grandchildren, Olivia, Jayden, and Simun as well as valued friends and other dear relatives.
Professionally, Marlyn dedicated 35 years to shaping young minds at BayView High School. As an Industrial Arts and Aerodynamics teacher, he not only imparted practical skills but also inspired his students to reach for the sky. Though he was never a pilot himself, his passion for aviation was contagious, culminating in the remarkable feat of building EAA Biplanes with his colleagues and students. This project was a testament to his innovative spirit and his ability to motivate and engage those around him.
Described by those who knew him as intelligent, thoughtful, and friendly, Marlyn's impact extended far beyond the classroom. His affable nature and wise counsel made him a treasured teacher and friend. His presence at school events and community gatherings, was a source of joy to many friends.
Marlyn was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty, and his parents, Leonard and Edditha, sister Doraine and brother Mike. Yet, his spirit lives on through the lives of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless students he mentored. Marlyn M. Tibbetts leaves behind a legacy of education, and service. In accordance with his wishes private services will be held.
