Mary Ann Sowinski (nee Balcerzak) was reunited with her beloved husband, Ernest, and their son, Craig, on February 21, 2026, at the age of 88. She was a devoted mother to Cindy (Dean) Kennedy and Chris (Jerry) Zortman. Mary Ann was a cherished grandmother to Dylan (Sarah) Kennedy, Ethan (Alyssa) Kennedy, Logan (Sara) Zortman, Clayton (Hannah) Zortman, and Abbey Zortman (Derrick). She was blessed with great-grandchildren Emma, Maya, and Cooper Kennedy.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Ernest “Ernie” Sowinski, her son Craig Sowinski, her brother Raymond (the late Nancy) Balcerzak, and her sister Gloria Mielke. She is further survived by other extended family members and friends, all of whom will miss her deeply.
During her married years, Mary Ann and Ernie enjoyed an active social life together, joining both bowling and volleyball leagues. Mary Ann also contributed to her community as a den mother for the Boy Scouts and was involved in supporting a baton twirling organization. Through these activities, she met many people and developed lasting friendships, often gathering for lunches, attending movies, and celebrating special occasions with her friends.
Mary Ann found great joy in hobbies such as crocheting and knitting. She relished opportunities to travel and cherished any gathering with family or friends. Holidays were especially meaningful, as she spent them with her grandchildren, her brother, and her sister-in-law, and she was always warmly welcomed by many other families. Mary Ann often spoke fondly of her trips to destinations including Florida, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Mexico, California, and cruising on the Rhine River.
A memorial gathering will be held at Max A. Sass & Sons-Mission Hills Chapel (8910 W. Drexel Ave., Franklin) on Thursday, February 26th starting at 4PM until the time of the memorial service at 6PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary Ann's name would be appreciated to St. Charles Borromeo Church in Milwaukee.
