Meta G.
Holzmann
November 14, 1931 – April 4, 2026
Meta Holzmann passed away suddenly but peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, April 4th, 2026, at the age of 94, with her daughter Diane by her side, and her son Ben (given name Bernd) sending his love and prayers. She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Marian (nicknamed Manfred), whose love remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Meta was the dear mother of Bernd (Karen), the late Ralph, and Diane Holzmann. She was the proud grandmother of Marissa (Derek) Rausch, Mjia Holzmann, and Vance Holzmann. She was the delighted great-grandmother of Isla and Hunter Rausch. Meta was the sister of the late Christine (the late Rainer) Groschupf, the late Erna (the late Manfred) Schneider, Erica (the late Reinhold) Gerkin, Helga (Hans-Joachim) Nehm, and Horst Meyn. Meta is further survived by many friends and relatives in both Germany and the United States.
Born in Germany, Meta immigrated to Milwaukee in 1956 with Manfred and their young son Ben. Ralph was born here that same year, and later daughter Diane added female energy to the family. Together with Manfred, she raised her children with strength and love, encouraging them to learn, be diligent, and to do their best at their pursuits.
Her heritage was something she carried proudly and lovingly throughout her life. She was able to return to visit family in Germany on several occasions, enjoying time with her mother and siblings, and family and friends. She enjoyed German music and listened to it whenever she could.
Meta and Manfred loved being part of the DANK German heritage society and its events. Meta was quite active in the DANK Milwaukee Choir, singing at events and gatherings for many years. She was a volunteer at Milwaukee's Germanfest for the first year in 1981, and for many summers thereafter.
She loved cooking for her family and welcoming people with warmth, conversation, and most of all...coffee. Coffee was her love language. For anyone to sit with Meta over a cup of coffee brought her great joy throughout her life.
Meta was gentle, sweet, and quietly kind, with a calm presence that brought comfort to those around her. She had a special appreciation for nature. She loved tending to her flowers and plants in and around the house, spending time gardening, and watching birds on her patio.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Heritage Deer Creek in New Berlin, who cared for Meta for close to 8 years. They were absolutely wonderful and truly compassionate, and contributed to her happiness and well-being.
A celebration of Meta’s life will be held on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, at the Max Sass Funeral Home. More details will follow.
