Mirna Barbosa was born on October 24, 1958, to the late Reverend Domingo Elias Barbosa and Lydia Josefa Barbosa Roman in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in the South Side of Chicago in the Englewood neighborhood, where she built lifelong relationships with her eight siblings and community that would last a lifetime.

Like many other kids in the same neighborhood, Mirna attended Henderson Elementary School and later graduated from Gage Park High School. Growing up in a Christian home, she was raised with strong faith and attended a Pentecostal church throughout her youth.

When Mirna wasn’t a stay-at-home mom, she was a dedicated and exceptional employee at Fruit Factory and a devoted CNA caregiver for many years. All those that knew her, knew that she was always laughing and joking around. Mirna was known and loved by many, especially her siblings. She loved all of them, but shared a special bond with her mother.

Mirna was blessed with three beautiful children: Vivian L. Cruz, Julio Cruz Jr., and Steven Valentín. After Mirna went through tough times searching for her person, and nearly 15 years later, God blessed her and reunited her with her first true love, Moises Acosta. The two married on October 5, 1996, and, as a result of that marriage, she gained three more children: Lamonte Acosta, Maurice Acosta, and Michelle Renee Acosta.

Mirna and Moises loved serving the Lord, alongside their pastors Lic. Jonathan and Lic. Ismarie Hernandez at Templo Maranatha AIPJ.

On November 13, 2025, Mirna was called home to be with the Lord because He knew her body had suffered too much. She is preceded in death by her father, Domingo E. Barbosa, and her youngest brother, David Barbosa.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Moises; her children, Vivian, Julio, Steven (Bethzaida), Lamonte, Maurice, and Michelle Renee; her grandchildren Noel Cruz, Anthony Cruz, Jaden Valentin, Issac Valentin, Bella Cruz, Elijah Cruz, Jared Lopez, Aliyah Lopez; one great-granddaughter, Emerald Cruz; her loving mother, Lydia Josefa Barbosa-Roman; and her siblings Domingo I. Barbosa (Evelyn Barbosa), Alma E. Morales (John A. Morales), Samuel Barbosa, Saul Barbosa (Milly Barbosa), Ivalis Barbosa, Jacqueline M. Soler (Emanuel Soler), Damaris L. Barbosa, along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends.

She loved them fiercely and unconditionally, and her greatest joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. May the Lord remember our dear Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Godmother, In-Law, Cousin, and Friend, Mirna.

We will miss your kindness, your laughter, and your loving spirit. Though this is not a goodbye, it is a farewell—until we meet again. Your spirit will forever live in our hearts.

Visitation will be at Max A. Sass - Greenridge on Friday, November 21st, from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:30 am.
