Richard Frank Balaka was born on January 22, 1954, and peacefully passed away on January 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving children.

Richard was a devoted and loving father to Tina Balaka and Richard Lee (Evangeline) Balaka . He took immense pride in his grandchildren, Richard James Balaka and Annika Rei Balaka, who brought him great joy and happiness. Beloved brother to Charles Vogel; the late Betty Balaka; Linda (the late Jim) Haslbeck; the late Robert (Colleen) Balaka; the late Carol (Ed) Bombeck; and Barbara (Mike) Turner. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Richard was born in Orange County, California, to Francis Balaka and Audrey (née Vogel, Balaka) Bosshart, the fourth of seven children. At a young age, his family returned to Wisconsin, where he was raised in Milwaukee. He later raised his own children in Milwaukee with Sonya, and they maintained a friendship throughout the years.

Richard proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, spending four years stationed in Germany as an engineer.

An avid outdoorsman, Richard loved Wisconsin’s natural beauty. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and took great pride in caring for his home in the woods. In retirement, he could often be found checking trail cameras in hopes of spotting the latest buck. During his working years, Richard was a machinist in tool and die shops, known for his strong work ethic and skilled hands. A true handyman, he was always willing to help family and friends with projects or lend his truck to move items—often putting the needs of others before his own.

In his downtime, Richard enjoyed watching all Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Green Bay Packers. On game days, a “Go Pack Go” text from Richard was almost guaranteed.

Richard will be remembered for his quiet generosity, love for his family, and pride in serving others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
