Rita Angeline Smith (nee Sikora) died peacefully at home on September 6, 2025 at the age of 94. Beloved mother of Kim Marie and Special “Little Gram” of parrot Franciso. Preceded in death by parents John and Julia Sikora and 10 brothers and sisters.
Born in Milwaukee in 1931, Rita attended Saint Josaphat Parish School, then graduated from Bay View High School in 1949. She worked at Plankinton Packing Company and Mueller Climatrol early in her career. Rita, a dedicated employee for Milwaukee County, retired in 1995. She was a Radiology and Medical Records Clerk at John L. Doyne Hospital. As a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for over 60 years, she was a member of Christian Women, served as a volunteer and bartender for church festivals and other social events, and regularly attended the Wednesday morning mass and Faith Group Social where she made many dear friends. For years, she enjoyed being a volunteer on the Wilson Park 4th of July Committee serving as the “Doll Buggy” chairperson. Rita, a proud resident of her neighborhood, was often seen tending to her yard and gardens-sweeping, pruning, mowing, trimming, raking, and shoveling-far into her golden years. She was admired for her wit, kindness, strength and tenacity.
“Dear Mother, you raised me, you praised me, when I was at my worst, you forgave me. You guided me with honesty. You taught me faith and charity. But most of all, at least to me, you gave your love unconditionally. For that, I am eternally grateful.”
Private services to be held. Rita will be laid to rest at St. Adalbert Cemetery at a later date.
