Robert G. Marek

Robert “Bob” G. Marek, 70, of New Berlin, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, following an eight-year battle with frontotemporal dementia. He was born in Franklin to Richard and Pauline Marek and graduated from Franklin High School in 1974.

Bob was known for his willingness to help family and friends with repairs of all kinds. He had a knack for giving discarded equipment new life, sometimes modifying that equipment to work in different makes and models, to save someone money or tide them over until they could replace it. Always eager to learn, he earned HVAC certifications and trained under a master electrician. His heating and air conditioning company, Marek’s Service, ran alongside his day job for 20 years. Helping people was a quiet source of pride for him.

During his career, he worked as an electrician at Crane Manufacturing in Cudahy, Briggs & Stratton in Wauwatosa, and Quad/Graphics in West Allis and Pewaukee, from which he retired.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Diane (née Sieg) Marek; his children, Andrew (Nicole) Marek and Melissa (Benjamin) Altmann; his siblings, Donald (Deanna Kuehn) Marek, Patrick (Nancy) Marek, Mary (Michael) Johnson, Charles (Joan) Marek, Barbara (Mark) Hanneman, and Therese (Joseph) Kern; his grandchildren, Carter Marek, Lena Altmann, Emma Marek, Camden Altmann, and Rhett Altmann; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Pauline Marek.

A celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks. The family wishes to thank everyone who has supported Bob in his care, including his hospice team of Andrea, Jessica, and Ryan. Special thanks to Doug Sieg Sr. as well as Connie and Ann of Visiting Angels for providing daily support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to organizations that Bob and his family support: the Alzheimer’s Association, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
