Heaven and our “Mama” were calling him home. Bob was given his wings on January 15, 2026 to join his beloved wife Gretchen of 54 years. Born in Milwaukee on April 26, 1936 to Roman and Jean Rydlewicz. Robert had a few endearing nicknames, but the most loving to him were Sweetsie Darling from his wife Gretchen and Pops to Bobby, Mary and Martha. He was Grandpa to fur babies through the years. He had 6 siblings, Myra, Sam, Judy, Roger, Luann and Roland. He is a loved brother-in-law and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was devoted to praying daily with the old, worn prayer book he treasured. His presence in church will be greatly missed. 

Bob is a US Army Veteran. He worked for the City of Milwaukee as an Arborist and retired after 36 years. He enjoyed this time to the fullest. Bob and Gretchen truly loved their time together. They created a life for their children to cherish. Many memories are ingrained in their family from their avid true to life story telling. Bob’s love of homemade dill pickles, crayfish, sea crabs, candy and dancing in his red sneakers will always be remembered with a giggle and a smile. He took great pride in gardening and tree planting. Through the years in his job and the family Northwoods properties, thousands of trees were planted by his accord recruiting family and friends to help. Milwaukee, Iola, Wautoma and ‘The Gilman House’ will forever have his ‘stamp’ on them, a legacy that will never be forgotten. Bob will infinitely live in our memory and our hearts. 

Please join us for his Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Blessed John Paul II Parish, 1568 W. Holt Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53215 Visitation at the Church from 9 – 10:45 AM with the funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Entombment St. Adalbert Cemetery.
