Rose Mary
Depatie
Dec 7, 1944 — Sep 17, 2026
Franklin
Rosemary DePatie Rosemary “Rose” DePatie age 81 of Carney Michigan passed away peacefully at Aurora Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI on September 17, 2026. She was a cherished daughter, sibling, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and her presence will be dearly missed.
Rose was born in Carney Michigan on December 7, 1944 to parents Esther and Lester (Kaletka) Murray and raised in Carney Michigan alongside her 6 siblings Elizabeth (Betty), Charles (Chuck), Kathy, Mary, John and Timothy (Tim). After graduating from Carney-Nadeau Public School, Rose married Francis (Fritz) DePatie. She graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in education. Afterwards, Rose and Fritz relocated to Southern Wisconsin where she served as a first-grade school teacher for over thirty years and raised two devoted daughters Jeanette (Jenny) DePatie and Michelle Andresen.
Rose loved to read and to learn. She routinely read the Milwaukee Journal front to back and was always eager to know what was happening in the world. During much of her life, she had a large garden and froze and canned fresh fruits and vegetables for the family to eat throughout the year. In her later years, she and Fritz became snowbirds moving back and forth between their retirement home in Carney, Michigan and their small house on the golf course in Sun City, Arizona.
In Arizona, she and Fritz enjoyed spending time with and taking a number of wonderful trips with her brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Lilly Murray. She particularly enjoyed Tim and Lilly’s “meals on wheels”--the homemade soups and dinners they routinely dropped off at her house. Rose remained close with all her siblings and spoke almost daily with her sister Mary. Rose loved playing cards (especially Hand and Foot). She was a fierce competitor at Scrabble and kept her mind sharp with crossword puzzles and online word games.
Rose loved classic country music, and her daughters Michelle and Jenny remember listening to Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Barbara Mandrell on WMAQ radio on the way to school in the morning. And she always, always, loved listening to Elvis. She loved to tell the story about how the Elvis impersonator at I and J fountain in Arizona, laid his silk scarf over her shoulders during one memorable performance. Although she moved around a bit, Rose and Fritz never lost their passion for watching the Green Bay Packers win on TV. (They were slightly less passionate about watching them lose.) Rose and Fritz were members of St. Bruno’s Parish in Michigan and Sun City Church of the Nazarene in Arizona. Both inside and outside of the church, Rose was a selfless volunteer and gave significant time to help others in her community. Rose adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to bring everyone together for Thanksgiving. She created the feast, one dish at a time over the course of the week to fuel the mighty hunters at the family gathering, especially her husband Fritz and son-in-law Brad. Afterwards, she created delicious crockpot venison meals to keep the family warm in the winter months.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Esther, her husband Fritz and her sisters Kathy and Elizabeth. She is survived by her brothers Chuck, Tim and John and sister Mary, daughters Jenny and Michelle, sons-in-law Brian and Brad, grandchildren (Michelle’s children) Megan and Sarah and great-grandchildren Cliff, Oliver, Evelyn and Jonathan.
A celebration of Rose’s life will be held at St. Bruno’s church located at N13770 Old US Highway 41 in Nadeau, Michigan at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 6. A gathering will be held in the church fellowship hall afterwards and all are invited to attend.
