Susan Louise Terwelp

Susan Terwelp, age 81, of Hartland, Wisconsin, went to eternal light on November 30, 2025. She was recently baptized Catholic through Queen of Apostles in Pewaukee, a joyful milestone in her spiritual journey.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Susan grew up with a vibrant spirit that would define her entire life. She attended Pulaski High School, where she served as drum major and was crowned Queen through the Order of the Eastern Star, early signs of the grace and leadership she would carry throughout her years.

Susan began her career as a beautician, helping others feel beautiful, before embracing her greatest calling as a devoted mother. Her love of reading became a cherished gift she passed to her children through daily trips to the public library, instilling in them a lifelong love of learning and stories.

A woman of many creative talents, Susan expressed herself through sewing, knitting, painting, and her beloved bear-making business. She delighted in selling her handcrafted bears at area craft fairs, where her warmth and artistry touched many lives. Her passions extended to animals, particularly horses and dogs, including her cherished family puppies MissT and Duke, and her beloved cat Sweetie, a treasured gift from her daughters.

Susan's spirit was defined by her amazing sense of humor, her selfless nature, and her unwavering love for her family. She treasured watching her children play t-ball, softball, tennis, and football, cheering them on with pride and joy. As a devoted Girl Scout troop leader, she guided young girls with patience and enthusiasm. An avid Brewers and Packers fan, she loved cheering on her Wisconsin teams. She was happiest when surrounded by friends and loved ones, playing cards (especially UNO with her grandchildren), or spending a perfect day in the warm sun with a good book. She was the kind of mother who always put others first, and her love knew no bounds.

Christmas held a special place in Susan's heart. She found pure joy in decorating, carefully selecting the perfect gifts, and settling in to watch Hallmark Channel's holiday movies. The season's lights, music, and cherished rituals brought her immense happiness, and many of the family's most beloved traditions were born from her thoughtful touch and loving spirit over the years.

Susan simply loved life, and she will be very missed.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Terwelp; her son, RJ Terwelp; her daughter, Lesa Tuck (and son-in-law, the late Ben Tuck); and her parents, Ruth and Jerome Zuehr.

She is survived by her children, Laura Callen (husband Jason Callen) and Tammy Terwelp (partner Drew of Colorado); grandchildren Alex, Isabell (husband Brennan), Elias, and Violet; great-grandchild Russell; her brother and sister-in-law, William and Paula Zuehr of Franklin; and her three nieces, Stephanie (great-nephew Aidan), Shannon, and Stacy Zuehr.

A memorial service will be held this summer, when family and friends can gather in the warm sun to play a few games of UNO and honor this special woman, just as she would have wanted.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff and her many friends at Hartland Place Assisted Living, which was Susan's home for the past 10 years. Their compassion, dedication, and kindness provided her with comfort and dignity, and the family is forever grateful for the wonderful care she received.
