Susan M. Wenzel, age 79, of Muskego, passed away on April 18, 2026. She was born on August 13, 1946, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Robert and Josephine Schauz, and lived a life marked by love, kindness, and friendship that touched all who knew her.
Susan graduated from Greenfield High School in 1965 and carried the values of hard work and dedication throughout her life. At the age of 15, she began working in the family business, where she built a lifelong connection to the people and work that would help shape her career. Her grandfather started the American Soda Water Company in 1929 in West Milwaukee, and her father later expanded the business to Greenfield. Susan devoted many years to the company, where she worked primarily as a cashier and in customer service. She also operated a forklift, ordered supplies, and handled office duties with reliability and care. It was there that she met the love of her life, David, and together they built a marriage of 56 years.
Susan also served as a lead receptionist at Luther Manor and at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home for seven years prior to that. In addition, she worked as a floor supervisor for Kohl’s department store. In every role she held, Susan was known for her strong work ethic, her warm smile, and her ability to make others feel welcome and valued.
Susan especially loved to travel, and she and David made treasured memories together, visiting all 50 states and traveling to Ireland. These adventures reflected her appreciation for life, her curiosity about the world, and the joy she found in sharing experiences with the one she loved. Her travels were among the many ways she embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude.
Above all, Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband, David Wenzel; her son, Christopher, and his wife Vicki; and her daughter, Bonnie, and her husband Jim Hajducki. She was a proud grandmother to Lexi, Kacie, and Jake, who brought her great joy. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Lynn and George Poweleit, Robert Charles Schauz, Joann Prymek, Christine and George Davis, Steven and Sandy Schauz, and Michael and Cathy Schauz. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Burkett-Olive.
Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the example she set through a life of devotion and kindness. Though she will be deeply missed, Susan’s memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to those who were blessed to know her.
A memorial visitation will be held at St. Mary's - Hales Corners on April 30th from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:30 AM
