Thomas "Tom" A. Budnik, 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was defined by service, steadiness, and family.
He was born on June 18, 1936, to Claude and Josephine Budnik and was the middle of three boys, raised on Milwaukee’s south side alongside his brothers Alvin and James.
Tom was the devoted husband of Donna, whom he now joins in eternal rest. Their marriage was one of quiet strength, humor, and unwavering commitment. Between Manhattans and Brandy Alexanders, they faced life together.
Tom served the Milwaukee Police Department for 30 years, retiring as a Sergeant. Service ran deep in the Budnik family, with all three brothers answering the call in their own way.
The son of hardware store owners, Tom developed a lifelong love of tools and woodworking. His craftsmanship lives on in the homes of his children and grandchildren, lasting reminders of his patience, skill, and care.
Rarely seen without his camcorder, Tom captured birthdays, holidays, and everyday moments.
Tom found great joy aboard his yacht, Moonbeam, creating lasting memories with family and friends on Lake Michigan and along the Mississippi River through the South Shore Yacht Club.
Tom is survived by his children: Claudia (Phil) Barron, Greg (Becky) Budnik, Jeanine (Brian) Bobber, Jeff (Sandi) Budnik, Natalie (Mark) Tischer, and Sheri (Scott) Curran. He was a cherished grandfather to 15 grandchildren and a beloved great-grandfather to 19.
Tom believed that love meant showing up. No matter the generation, he was always there. His steady presence became a defining constant for the family he loved and for every child and grandchild who looked into the stands and knew he and Donna would be there.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the MAX A. SASS MISSION HILLS CHAPEL (8910 W Drexel Ave., Franklin) from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.
