Virginia E. Becher, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. She was born on July 21, 1941, and raised on a dairy farm in Auburndale, Wisconsin, to the late Henry and Elizabeth (Schill) Weiler. The youngest of eight children, Virginia grew up with a strong appreciation for family, hard work, and the simple joys of life. On June 2, 1962, Virginia was united in marriage to the love of her life, Tom. Together they built a beautiful life and raised their family, sharing many wonderful memories until his passing in 2020.
Music was one of Virginia’s greatest passions and a gift she joyfully shared with others throughout her life. A talented musician and music teacher, she taught piano lessons in her home, played the organ and accordion, directed choirs, and loved singing alongside her fellow choir members. She was involved in her church, generously sharing her musical talents by playing the organ and volunteering her time singing at local nursing homes. She also served as director of the Polish Men's Choir, a role she cherished.
Virginia found happiness in life's many little pleasures. She and Tom enjoyed square dancing together, and she never passed up an opportunity to enjoy a parade. She had a green thumb, loved gardening, enjoyed quilting special keepsakes for her grandchildren, and was always ready to welcome family and friends into her home. Her kitchen was rarely without delicious homemade desserts, as baking and entertaining were among her favorite ways to show her love. She was a social person who treasured her many friendships and enjoyed bringing people together.
Virginia had a wonderful sense of humor, a quick wit, and a gentle spirit. She had a way of making people feel welcome and could always be counted on for a smile or a clever remark. A loyal Wisconsin sports fan, she enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams. Above all, Virginia's greatest joy was her family, and she took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Virginia will be dearly missed by her loving children: Angie Schmitt, Lucy (James) Ovokaitys, Carol (Colby) Ardis, William Becher, Donna (Craig) Frisby, David (Lanie) Becher, and Therese (Matt) Van Genderen; 20 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom; son-in-law, Mark Schmitt; grandson, J.C.; and her brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at MAX A. SASS SOUTH SHORE CHAPEL (1314 W. Manitoba Avenue, South Milwaukee) from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday, November 13, 2026, at DIVINE MERCY PARISH (800 Marquette Avenue, South Milwaukee) from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
