William Martin Ertl “Bill” passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on March 2, 1949, Bill lived a life marked by courage, spirit, and steadfast devotion to the people and values he held dear. He will be remembered as a proud man and a loyal friend, whose presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Shelly Kordus, along with the Ertl family, caring neighbors, and his faithful black lab, Zena, who brought him companionship and comfort. Bill was the beloved son of Martin and Doris (Schmidt) Ertl, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Daniel Kordus.

Bill served his country honorably as a United States Navy Vietnam veteran, and he carried the pride of that service throughout his life. His honorable discharge reflected the dignity and commitment with which he approached his duty.

Following his service, Bill worked at Master Lock and later retired from Waste Water Management. Bill enjoyed many simple pleasures in life, and he found happiness in the things that reflected his personality and interests. In his younger years, he loved riding Harley motorcycles, an activity that suited his spirited nature and sense of freedom. He was a strong conservative who enjoyed talking politics and sharing his views with others. He also enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants, fishing, boating, and spending time outdoors. Yard work was another activity he took pride in, and he found satisfaction in caring for his surroundings. He enjoyed listening to the Golden Oldies, and the music of that era brought him comfort and enjoyment. Above all, he loved animals, especially dogs, and his affection for Zena was a reflection of the special place animals held in his heart.

Bill will be deeply missed, the example he set through his courage, spirit, and steadfast presence will continue to be felt by all who were blessed to share in his life. Private funeral services will be held at a later date.
