Michael A. Konczal, a resident of San Jose, California, passed away on January 2, 2026. Michael was a resident of San Jose since 1975 when he moved with his family from Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the age of 16. Michael attended Silver Creek High School. While working toward his Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism at San Jose State, Michael worked for JC Penney until he received his degree in 1982. His first journalism job was with channel 36, KICU, where he worked for approximately two years. Michael then began his 32-year career with KPIX Channel 5, the CBS affiliate in the Bay Area, as an Assignment Editor, where he worked until his death. As an assignment editor for KPIX, he received four Emmy awards, an Associated Press award and the Reuben Salazar award for his coverage of an ongoing story. Michael had many friends and was loved by everyone who met him. He and his sister, Dorene, were best of friends and lived together their entire lives with their mother, Lois, who passed away in 2023 and their father, Felix, who passed away in 1993.
Michael enjoyed traveling to Paso Robles for wine tasting, going to Los Angeles to visit friends, and visiting his hometown of Milwaukee for Packers and Brewers games. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan. Around 2004 Michael traveled with then California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger to Israel. He loved hosting barbecue parties with his sister Dorene in the backyard, where he made the world’s best margaritas and served amazing and delicious barbecue. He loved his two wine club memberships and would throw annual wine tasting parties. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Felix Konczal in 1993 and his mother Lois Konczal in 2023. In addition to his sister Dorene, who he lived with until his passing, he also had an older brother, Lawrence, who lives in Hartland Wisconsin with his wife, Kathryn and an older sister, Carol, who lives in Florida. In addition, Michael had many nieces and nephews.
